Construction Begins for New ‘Ohr Chabad’ Town in the Negev

After 11 years of overcoming hurdles, official permission was granted for 30 Lubavitch families to build a new town in the south of Eretz Yisroel, to be named “Ohr Chabad.” The first construction trucks arrived today, and plans are in place for the development of 5,000 family homes.

It’s a sight that the group of pioneers dreamed of for 11 years: bulldozers plowing through the land, preparing for construction. “It’s an overwhelming happiness,” says Chaya Hendel. “I’ve been waiting to see this for so long—and now it’s begun!”
